The Blog of Jake and Renee!

Welcome to our blog!

Unsigned.com

I am a huge fan of Christian music and I love all types of it. I haven't been very good at keeping up-to-date with the new Christian Artists and bands, so I usually rely on my older brother to fill me in and show me all the new stuff. Well, now I've found a site where I can keep track of and listen to tons of new artists and bands that are trying to make their way to the top. Unsigned has hundreds of artists/bands that you don't hear everyday on the radio, but that are still great, so you can keep tabs on your favorite new artists. If you aren't in to Christian music, still check them out; they have tons of categories from Trance Artists to Ska, and many more to choose from!

Great health resource!

Healthadel.com is a great new health information website that is growing more and more each day. They don't have a huge database at this point, but they are getting much bigger all the time and their information is well-worth waiting for! They have a terrific section on the Advantages and disadvantages of stem cell research that I highly recommend checking into! I have very high expectations for this site and I personally think we are looking at a future #1 health resource on the web!

DVD Burning on Mac

I have a MacBook with a superdrive in it and it has the capability to burn pretty much any type of DVD. I have been having problems finding the right program for burning .AVI (Windows native) to a viewable DVD. I can successfully do it with the included iDVD but it seems to take far to long to complete the encoding process. I have been trying out Toast 7 and 8 as well as VisualHub 1.1.6. I hope to find the perfect one. This is a common issue among Mac users, so as soon as I get it figured out, I will be sure to let ya'll know.

One Account Mortgage!

Mortgages are usually a big fat pile of debt that sits there accumulating interest as you slowly pay it off. The One Account Mortgage combines your debt into your normal current account and your monthly salary (while it is in your account) is offset against your mortgage balance. This means that while you have some of your monthly income left in your account, it is counted towards your mortgage debt and you pay interest one this reduced sum. "On top of this you can repay extra money on your mortgage any time you want without penalty or take a break from mortgage repayments if finances get a little tight."

Personally I think that this is a terrific idea! This is a wonderful way to help people with financial debt to get back on their feet and considerably lower their stresses! If you want more information on the One Account Mortgage, check out their site!

"The Ultimate Gift"

The Ultimate Gift is a movie that is coming out in theaters on March 9th! If you haven't heard about the movie, here is an overview. "After his rich grandpa dies, Jason expects to receive a pretty hefty inheritance. To his dismay he discovers that it will not be that easy. His Grandfather has set up a list of tasks or 'gifts' designed to challenge Jason and make him realize what is truly important in life."

This movie looks like it is going to be quite an impressive flick, starring James Garner, Ali Hillis, Drew Fuller and Brian Dennehy. It has had several hundred pre-screenings resulting in around $5 million in donations. The message of the movie is quite intriguing and is creating quite a buzz. Even schools are beginning to incorporate the message of this book-turned-movie into their curriculum.

The creators and distributors of this movie have very high hopes for the film to the extent that , Yes, they do want it to be successful as a film, but also, the overall message of film is another part that they want to catch on, and I believe it will. This is the official site of the movie "The Ultimate Gift" and the grass-roots movement its starting to help charities and give to others.

Be sure to check out the film as soon as possible. I think you will really enjoy it, and maybe it will make you think a bit about your own priorities in life.

Next Gen dropout!

CIRCLE Studio, the creators of Without Warning went ahead and completely dropped off the face of the earth without warning (I know that was cheesy.)

"The reports added that CEO Jeremy Heath-Smith informed the company's staff about the bad news the other day. Also, it has been said that CiRCLE has gone into liquidation and will cease operations immediately."

The WW game for PS2 and Xbox was actually a fairly respectable game and I really though that we would see CIRCLE Studio in this battle of next gen consoles. I guess I was sadly mistaken.
Lets hope that we don't see anymore decent creators giving up on us.

Rockstartup

Rockstartup.com is a very cool site! If you are unfamiliar with it, it is basically a reality show starring, PayPerPost employees. They have I believe eleven episodes thus far and they are quite entertaining. being a postie for them, it is fun for me to get to see what is going on behind the scenes at the company and with the people that work there. As you watch each episode, it does indeed seem as though the employees are becoming more and more stressed out than they were in the beginning days of PPP.

My favorite episode on the site is the most current one. I say this because, it is funny to see the human side to the employees at PPP as opposed to just their initials when they 'sign' and email at the bottom. In the most recent episode, the staff at PPP suddenly realize that they have all apparently put on a couple of unsightly (for Florida weather) pounds. It is quite humerus how the one lady is all about dieting whereas the other is simply putting on a show and not truly dieting whatsoever!

Anyhow, it really is an entertaining way to spend a few minutes of your day. So check out the site today!

I am officially starting a new blog

I have decided to start an all new blog based entirely around the PS3. It will contain news (and rumor) updates about the system, the company, games, and accessories. I have not settled on the blogspot domain name yet, but I will be sure to post about it again just as soon as it is ready to go. It is looking good so far. It is going to be using the same theme as Sankey Blog with minor adjustments and of course and different title banner.

Grilling just got easier!

If you like to grill, you know how important it is to get your meat cooked to everyone's liking and how easy it is to mess it up! Well now you can grill to perfection with the Grill Alert wireless meat thermometer. This little gadget makes grilling so much easier! With this device, you can select the type of meat and how you want it done...and then walk away! Now when you're entertaining you don't have to stand in front of the barbecue the whole time. The monitor has a voice prompt alert that tells you when your entrée is “Almost Ready” and “Ready.” So you'll know exactly when its cooked to your liking! I think this is such a great idea, especially if you like to entertain. And if you don't, this would be such a fun gift to give to someone who does! Before those summer months catch up to us, check out this fun gadget and get ready to grill!

Cocoa may improve brain function!

I know, it sounded a little crazy to me at first too, but apparently studies are showing that cocoa my improve blood flow in the brain. As a result, it just may have the ability to fight off dementia. Because we live in an ageing society, cases of dementia are being seen more and more and medical researchers are seeking ways to help/prevent this. Researcher have found that one potential source of help for our brains may be flavanols. Flavanols are an antioxidant that can increase blood flow to the brain, and it just so happens to be found in cocoa beans! Now dont start clearing out your local supermarket of cocoa, because the cocoa typically sold in stores in low in flavanols to lessen the bitter taste. However, I'm sure it isnt too difficult to find cocoa high in these antioxidants, so check it out and make a nice hot cup of cocoa a part of your diet! You can read more about his story at MSNBC.com.

Guns vs. Tasers

Here is something to think about. Why is it that certain states allow people to get gun permits but yet they don't allow a Taser or stun-gun to be carried? Don't you think that it would make more sense for us to not kill the first person who tries to mug us? Tasers and stun-guns will knock the assailant down for the count, but yet they wont necessarily be killed! I know that I don't want shooting someone with a pistol on my conscience! In some states you cannot even get pepper spray legally! All this does is cause people to be unsafe! A very real problem in the U.S. is rape, especially among college age girls. So do you really want your girlfriend or daughter walking to her dorm in the dark with out even so much as pepper spray? It is just silly. The only way to keep her safe is to get her a handgun (and a permit!)

BrickHouseSecurity.com has a great selection of non-lethal weaponry that will help keep your loved ones (or yourself) safe in the event that something tragic goes down. So, check your local laws and head over to their site to get all you need! Check out my favorite, the Pistol Air Taser w/Laser sight 50.000 Volts!

Bulgaria would also be nice...

If I wasn't going to Mississippi for Spring break, Bulgaria would be next on my list! I know there's a huge difference there, and it may seem a little random...but Bulgaria is really a BEAUTIFUL place! After getting a little glimpse of Europe when I was in Poland, it is definately a place I would love to go back to. So if I had the option, I would love to spend some time in Bulgaria on the beaches along the Black Sea coast or up in the mountains. If you havent already seen what this countries has to offer, then I would highly recommend looking in to the beautiful property in Bulgaria!

Spring Break in Mississippi

Ok, so Mississippi isn't the first place most college students would want to spend their spring break...but that's where I'll be! It won't be the relaxing break I could have had, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'll be going down to Mississippi with my family and some others from my church to help with the hurricane relief. I'm not exactly sure what our job will be just yet, I guess just whatever they need at the time we're there. It could be anything from installing cabinets to landscaping to helping with office work. I'm really looking forward to being able to go serve and to be able to spend this time with my family! I'm sure it will be a great time and I hope I'll have a lot of stories to come back and share with you all!

Jewish Dating Site

Finding singles online can be a great way to find your match. Of course it isn't fool proof, but I have known a few people who met their current spouse through an online dating site. Many of these sites do a great job matching singles up according to their interests and other categories, but you really don't know for sure what someone is like in other areas of their life. What is their culture and family like? Where do they stand spiritually? As a Christian, I know how important it is to be matched up with someone who shares the same beliefs. If you are Jewish, I'm sure you feel the same way. Well, now there is a site that is targeted specifically towards Jewish singles. On this site, you will be able to meet other singles who share not only your interests, but your beliefs as well. So, if you are Jewish and looking for a match, check out Jewish Personals and start meeting other singles today!

Flu Pandemic Plan

With our advanced medical technology and flu immunizations we are provided with each year, the flu is not an issue that is on the average American's radar screen. However the Avian Flu, or Bird Flu, has been receiving more and more attention. Experts say it is not a matter of if, but when. This strand of the flu is not one that we need to be fearful of just yet, but we do need to be prepared. There have currently been 270 people affected and 164 killed from this virus. Many of these cases are confined to Asia, and so far it has not been a threat at all in the U.S. As of now, the bird flu is not easiley transmittable from person to person but primarily bird to bird, or bird to person. However, as this strand of the flu develops it will eventually be able to transfer person to person, which is what we need to be prepared for. Once this flu strand is mutated to the point that it can spread among the human population, it is expected to spread very rapidly and be very dangerous. However, it's comforting to know that U.S. health officials are already creating a plan to fight against this expected pandemic. You can read more about the bird flu and what the plan is at www.pandemicflu.gov.

PayPerPost Upgrades!

PayPerPost has recently released a new version of their website and interface. It is very attractive and user friendly. However, I have noticed several glitches in it at this point that are actually preventing me from making as much money as possible. I have contacted them twice about an issue with incorrect Google PR displays. At any rate, the system promises to be incredible when everything is all sorted out.

The image above display the new "disclosure badge" that will double as an advertising bubble. They have also implemented several ways for us to make some cash as affiliates (getting other people to sign up and whatnot.)

All in all the site and the company in general have come very far since I started with them 5 months ago and I am looking forward to see what happens in the future!

Stay up-to-date on, The Young and the Restless

What would daytime television be without the classic soaps? For some reason, when I think of soap operas I imagine my mom sitting in the living room when I was little, folding laundry, and watching The Young and the Restless on TV. I don't usually watch soap operas, but as I'm sure is the case with most women, once in awhile one will capture my attention and I just can't turn it off until I find out what happens! Sometimes its easy to just get wrapped up in the fantasy lives of our favorite characters. If you're one who likes to keep up-to-date on the soaps like The Young and the Restless, you should check out soaps.com. Super Proposal

I finally got to see the video of the guy, J.P., who proposed to his girlfriend on a commercial! He was on E! a couple weeks before the super bowl, talking about his "super proposal" he had planned (of course he disclosed his identity so the surprise wouldnt be ruined!) J.P. had made a website, mysuperproposal.com, with the intention of raising money to fund a super bowl commercial in which he would propose. Well, apparently some company came across his idea and decided to fund it so he could carry out his plan. The commercial unfortunately did not make it on the air for the super bowl, but he still went through with it...airing it on his girlfriends favorite show! What a surprise that would be!!! You can see the video of the commercial and her reaction at ifilm.com. Check it out it's really cute!! Congratulations Geraldine and J.P. and may God bless your marriage!

Iowa Winters...

MAN does it get cold in the winters here! I'm pretty sure this is one of the coldest streaks I've experienced here. Or maybe last year was just as bad its just that I forget just how cold it really gets. Either way...ITS COLD! The other night it reached temperatures of -30 with the wind chill! Thats 20 BELOW ZERO! Thats not even freezing...I dont even think there are words to describe coldness like that. Right now, if it was just below freezing outside...that wouldnt sound too bad! 30 degrees is much more comfortable than single digits. Hopefully we'll get a little "warm" streak here soon!

If you didn't watch the game, the Colts went home with the Super Bowl XLI victory! YEAH! The game was pretty fun to watch, but I was a little worried at first. The Bears seemed to start off stronger than the Colts, but it didn't take long before the Colts started pulling ahead. It was really rainy the whole game which clearly made the ball very slippery because there were sure a lot of turnovers! That always keeps the game exciting though (I'm sure the players disagree!) If you missed it, don't worry I'm sure you can see the highlights on ESPN, but if you don't get around to it the important thing to remember is...THE COLTS ARE THE CHAMPS!! =)

UK Insurance

Everyone knows that having insurance is very important, but it also can be pretty expensive! I'm lucky to have wonderful parents who pay for my car insurance, but I know its a big expense to look forward to once I'm out on my own. If your looking for insurance, its definitely a good idea to shop around a little and see whats out there and which agency has the best to offer you. Did you know that you can even get insurance on your pets?! I had no idea until I visited Insure 121's site. Insure 121 is a great site to check out if you live in the UK and are in the market for insurance, whether it be home insurance, car, or even for your pet! This site provides you with quotes from several major insurance companies so you can get an idea about whats out there and even compare car insurance prices to find the best one.

I never work!

I don't mind my job at Aeropostale, but I get hardly any hours! We have these ridiculous "on call" shifts where we have to call in an hour before hand to see if they need us to come in. But of course, they never do, so its really frustrating at times...especially when I'm runnin low on cash! This week I had one "on call"/wasted shift...and only one actual scheduled shift thats a whole 4 HOURS!!! HAh..a little hard to pay the bills with those kind of hours. Thankfully I have Payperpost and I am GOING to start posting more so I won't be stressed about never working!

Credit Cards!

I use credit cards all the time! They are in some ways, a great blessing! I personally would prefer to use 0% balance transfers because the less they charge for getting your cash, the better! Balance transfer credit cards allow you to transfer and withdraw cash! CardGuide.co.uk allows you to compare credit cards and compare credit card offers, it really is a great place to go if you are looking for a credit card comparison resource! Another great aspect of credit cards that I have gotten into more recently is credit card reward points! It is great! You can get cash back credit cards and earn cash and rewards for every bit that you spend on your card! credit card loyalty is very important. So, check out CardGuide.co.uk and find the right credit card for you!

Viva La Bam!

Bam Margera is a stud. His show rocks. They are not currently make new episodes but they play re-runs all the time on MTV2. I love this show. I cannot believe how he treats his parents! It is ridiculous! I would be so mad at my kid if he were to do half of the crap that Bam pulls! It is hilarious none the less. Be sure to check it out on MTV2!

Mint Credit Card

Looking for the right credit card can be a little difficult. If you live in the UK, you should check out what mint credit cards has to offer. This card was introduced by MINT in 2003 and offered a standard version credit card and the MC2 card which has the bottom right-hand corner removed; this was the first change to the shape of credit cards in the UK for 37 years! The Mint card offers 0% on purchases and balance transfers until 1st December 2007 along with many other features. Don't need a credit card? Well Mint also offers a gift card, which basically works like a prepaid credit card. So if you a gift but don't know where to begin, this is a great option and can be used almost anywhere!

Ok..Its settled!

Whew! So a decision has finally been made about were we're going to live for next year. After we looked at the house again last night, I liked it a whole lot more than the first time I saw it. For some reason, I had this really bad picture of it in my head...but it really is a pretty nice place. I think I was just not being very open minded the first time because I was set on an apartment. But, I realized that I was stressing about it way too much, and yes it is a big decision, but it really is insignificant in the big picture. I had several great choices to pick from, and I just wanted to live somewhere that was the most convenient for me and was what I had in mind. But after praying about it I realized that just because its not something I had in mind or planned, doesnt mean its bad! I just need to be thankful that I have the blessing of choosing where I want to live, and knowing that either place would make a great home! So, God has helped me to see that I have a chance to live with four great girls in a nice place, so I shouldnt pass it up and hold out for something else just because it isnt what I had in mind. Living in the house is going to be great and I'm getting excited to be able to have my own place next year!

Loan Consolidation

If you've taken out several loans, consolidating them is a great way to relieve some of the pressures of debt. I've taken out a few different loans for school and have had them consolidated so when it comes time to make payments on them, I'll only have to pay one lender. That's the great thing about Loan Consolidation, it allows you to combine your student loans (or any loans) into one loan so that paying them back is much easier and more convenient!

More about my housing...

Ok, this is like the third post about my housing situation...but its just at the front of my mind this week! Krista and I looked at an apartment this evening and it was SUPER nice! I really liked it, the only problem is there's only two bedroom ones left so I dont know what the other girls will think about that. The masterbedroom is HUGE and I'm pretty sure we could fit the four of us in there...but the second bedroom is smaller. So, it would be great if there were three of us, a little crammed with four...but definately still workable. We're looking at the house again tonight, so it will be nice to get a look at it again to compare. It would be nice to all have our own rooms....but is it worth another $100 a month?? I dont know, maybe? Well there' obviously a lot to think about, so we'll see what the other girls think tonight. I'll keep you posted! =)
