Smallville is a show that has been following the life of Clark Kent as a teenager for 5 Seasons now! Surgeons today can perform some truly amazing operations. Hip replacement is one of these. Within the time you could watch a couple episodes of Smallville, someone's life could be changed by receiving a new hip!
My great-grandmother, Nonni, was one such person. Even though she was in her mid 80s, she didn't let that stop her from walking the 1/2 mile to our mail box or feeding our sheep, Muffin. Being a sheep that didn't realize her size, Muffin knocked Nonni over one day as she tried to feed her, causing Nonni to break her hip. So, Nonni went through the hip replacement surgery, received a whole new hip, and was back to walking around (slow, but sure). Unfortunately she was not as mobile as before, but the surgery was successful and allowed her to return to some of the things she loved to do!

I read the Bible nearly every day, and I tend to come across verses that help me in my everyday life. So, I just thought that it would be good share them with you as I find them. Ok, so I'm am a big advocate of losing weight the right/healthy way. Though many people who are desperate to lose a few pounds think that skipping meals is the way to do it, this is not healthy! Yes, for obvious reasons you will eventually lose that weight, but you I can guarantee that you will not be feeling in tip top shape! Your body will feel weaker because, not eating only deprives your body of the much needed energy it needs to function. When you don't give it that energy from food, your body goes into survival mode and starts to dig into the protein, carbohydrates and fats it has stored up from past meals. If you continue to not give your body the nourishment it needs, these energy stores will be depleted and the body will begin to use up muscle as its source of energy (including muscle from your heart and other organs). Not a good thing! Don't worry, this of course won't happen by skipping just a few meals. However, having the mindset that the easiest or quickest way to lose those pounds is by not eating, will only lead you down an unhealthy path. Ok, so what is a better way then? Wednesday, Dec. 28 - Thursday, Dec. 29 there is going to be a huge Christian Music festival called "Onefest" in the UNI-Dome on University of Northern Iowa's campus! Between 3,000 to 5,000 youth and adults are expected to attend the 24-hour "Onefest," scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The event is designed to bring the body of Christ together in a festival-like atmosphere to worship and learn. A number of well-known Christian bands will perform and speakers will be presenting throughout the event. There will be break-out teaching sessions for youth directors and church personnel, with some events in the Wellness/Recreation Center and the Physical Education Center. If you are interested in fashion desiging then you need to watch this show! It's definatly one of my new favorites. Project runway is like an American Idol for fashion designers. Everyweek the designers are given a new project to complete in a certain period. When the times up, they are to have their design modeled on the runway and judged (which of course leads to the 'loser' having to leave the show).
