Hip Replacement
Surgeons today can perform some truly amazing operations. Hip replacement is one of these. Within the time you could watch a couple episodes of Smallville, someone's life could be changed by receiving a new hip!
My great-grandmother, Nonni, was one such person. Even though she was in her mid 80s, she didn't let that stop her from walking the 1/2 mile to our mail box or feeding our sheep, Muffin. Being a sheep that didn't realize her size, Muffin knocked Nonni over one day as she tried to feed her, causing Nonni to break her hip. So, Nonni went through the hip replacement surgery, received a whole new hip, and was back to walking around (slow, but sure). Unfortunately she was not as mobile as before, but the surgery was successful and allowed her to return to some of the things she loved to do!
