With the economy in such disarray and many people hurting for jobs, college students should take a hard look at which careers are going to give them the best opportunity of getting a job coming out of college. The two most secure fields are agriculture and healthcare. Agriculture because people need food, and healthcare because people get sick and need doctors. When declaring a major, I would know exactly what jobs in healthcare you might be able to get.
